📚 Bookmobile Babe are on a mission to bring books to families, children, and teens who can’t make it to the library or can’t afford the newest bestseller at the bookstore.
📕 They host book exchanges to redistribute old favorites that have been read or outgrown to shelves where those titles are new and exciting. They make literacy and art activities accessible to all learners across the metropolitan area of Portland, focusing on underserved communities, with limited access to resources like books and libraries, highlighting underrepresented and local authors, subjects and cultures.
📖 Since 2018, The Bookmobile Babe has distributed over 5,000 books and is still going strong, fostering a sense of community throughout Portland in this process. Thanks to funding from grants from Portland Parks Foundation and RE/MAX Equity they’ve been able to bring new books to distribute at their Summer Reading Camp in Lents Park and other events.
🚒 Last summer, they bought a Japanese Fire Truck and repurposed it as a bookmobile to take books to and from events throughout the year. And beginning November 1, 2023, Bookmobile Babe is delighted to begin operating a used bookstore and community space at the Lloyd Center, in the former Payless Shoe Store, where the old shoe shelves will now serve as bookshelves.
It will serve as an inexpensive used bookstore, a community space for kids after school and as an events space with our community partners, local authors and teachers.
Please contact Christie Quinn at christiequinn@gmail.com or at 415-250-0610 if you’d like to volunteer with Bookmobile Babe or to arrange renting/sharing the space at the Lloyd Center for events.
