Budget Committee fiscal year 2026-’27
Thank you to Thrive East PDX members, along with other community members and organizations, who testified at Portland City Council yesterday and made their voices heard for East Portland. Thank you to Historic Parkrose, Division Midway Alliance, East Portland Collective, Thrive Community Resilience Group, Rose CDC, PDX Saints Love, Hope and Bread, and many others for showing up and speaking out for our communities.
Most of us are not paid to do this work. Many of us showed up at our own expense or had to take time off work to be there. We did it because we care deeply about our community and believe this work matters.
Collectively, we advocated for our community groups to continue the important work they do every day — whether that means serving immigrant and refugee neighbors, planting more trees, beautifying our streets, elevating youth voices, feeding the community, housing more people, creating places for connection, or strengthening community bonds. We also advocated for climate resilience, workforce development, parks and green spaces, support for small businesses — many of them immigrant-owned — and so much more.
Now, we watch as Council debates the Mayor’s proposed budget and Councilors’ amendments, and we remain hopeful for the best.
Regardless of what is approved and what is not, our work is far from over. We look forward to continuing to work alongside our elected officials to build climate resilience, economic equity, and stronger community connections so that East Portland can THRIVE.
